Via ferrata (from the Italian for "iron path") is a protected climbing route built with a steel cable rail fixed to the rock face equipped with metal steps, ladders, suspension bridges and zip wires intended to facilitate progress and ensure the safety of the people using it. The via ferrata is a sporting activity halfway between hiking and climbing.
